HELP SMALL WORLD YOGA keep free yoga at the Nashville Public Library!

We need your help to continue free, all-ages yoga at your local library! We’re seeking $12,000 to cover operating costs at all 21 branches seven days a week for the first half of 2025.

For the last decade, Nashvillians have had access to free and low-cost yoga in their communities thanks to the mission of Small World Yoga. The city’s first nonprofit yoga studio seeks $12,000 to support library yoga and meditation classes seven days a week for the first half of 2025.

Since 2016, Small World Yoga has collaborated with Nashville Public Library and the Nashville Public Library Foundation to offer yoga classes at library branches across Nashville. These classes are always free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages and levels of experience.

Recognizing the transformative power of yoga, all three organizations have worked together to provide these wellness and mindfulness services at no cost for library patrons as part of the Be Well at NPL program. With gentle flows, meditations, chair yoga, and even kids’ yoga, Small World Yoga’s classes have become some of the most popular program offerings at the library.

“These classes are for everyone,” says Bassam Habib, Be Well at NPL Program Manager. “We see a really diverse demographic of students attending these classes, across education levels, employment status, income, and housing.”

“The class is a wonderful way to exercise and to be a part of a loving community,” says one library patron who has been attending the gentle class at Edmondson Pike Library since its inception. “We have had many great teachers, and I have made many friends. Each Small World Yoga teacher has been welcoming and has guided us in learning yoga, no matter what level, beginner to more advanced.”

The impact of yoga on the students at Nashville’s libraries has been profound, fostering a sense of wellbeing and connectedness.

“The teachers give us suggestions on how to practice at any age,” says Janice Nichols, one of Small World Yoga’s library students. “The library is a welcoming place to relax and learn postures. The price cannot be beat—free!—and it’s oh-so good.”

Small World Yoga is committed to its vision of providing free yoga at each of Nashville Public Library’s 21 branches. In time for Giving Tuesday, Small World Yoga launched a fundraiser to continue these invaluable offerings.

“I’ve been attending for over a year now and it has helped me both mentally and physically,” says one library yoga student. “I also love the community I’ve become a part of. What Small World Yoga offers is priceless.”
