Small World Yoga offers free, all-ages yoga at Nashville Public Library branches across Nashville.

A little history
For the last decade, Nashvillians have had access to free and low-cost yoga in their communities thanks to the mission of Small World Yoga, the city’s first nonprofit yoga studio. Since 2016, Small World Yoga has collaborated with Nashville Public Library and the Nashville Public Library Foundation to offer yoga and meditation classes at library branches across Nashville seven days a week. These classes are always free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages and levels of experience.
Recognizing the transformative power of yoga, all three organizations have worked together to provide these wellness and mindfulness services at no cost for library patrons as part of the Be Well at NPL program. With gentle flows, meditations, chair yoga, and even kids’ yoga, Small World Yoga’s classes have become some of the most popular program offerings at the library.
Why these classes matter

“These classes are for everyone,” says Bassam Habib, Be Well at NPL Program Manager. “We see a really diverse demographic of students attending these classes, across education levels, employment status, income, and housing.”
“The class is a wonderful way to exercise and to be a part of a loving community,” says one library patron who has been attending the gentle class at Edmondson Pike Library since its inception. “We have had many great teachers, and I have made many friends. Each Small World Yoga teacher has been welcoming and has guided us in learning yoga, no matter what level, beginner to more advanced.”
The impact of yoga on the students at Nashville’s libraries has been profound, fostering a sense of wellbeing and connectedness.
“Small World Yoga’s presence at the Nashville Public Library is more than just a free fitness class,” says Susan Hollyday, one of Small World Yoga’s library students. “It is a testament to the power of community. The library, a democratic space open to all, is a perfect place for gatherings centered on mindfulness and connection.”
“The teachers give us suggestions on how to practice at any age,” says Janice Nichols, another student. “The library is a welcoming place to relax and learn postures. The price cannot be beat—free!—and it’s oh-so good.”
How you can support us
Small World Yoga relies heavily upon donations from its community, and even $5 goes a long way toward helping us continue our outreach offerings, like our library classes.
“I’ve been attending for over a year now and it has helped me both mentally and physically,” says one library yoga student. “I also love the community I’ve become a part of. What Small World Yoga offers is priceless.”
