Originally from Houston, Texas, Alyssa graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance. In Austin, Alyssa studied pilates and movement, eventually becoming a paid mime and performing as an actor and singer in various festivals including SXSW, First Night Austin, FronteraFest, and ArtSpark. In 2008, she moved to New York and worked as a voiceover artist and Shakespearean/sketch comedy actor. After attending Columbia University for a semester for a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med program, Alyssa had her first (and only) migraine, and knew something needed to change. She left Columbia and began her yoga teacher training at Encourage: Handcrafted Yoga in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. In 2016, she became a Yoga Alliance 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and moved to Tennessee. Since 2019, Alyssa has performed with Verge Theater, Woven Theater, Act One, and Inebriated Shakespeare, as well as teaching yoga to community members and MNPS students through Small World Yoga. Alyssa teaches gentle yoga and focuses on connecting breath to movement. She loves sharing about the anatomy behind movement and poses and creating a welcoming and encouraging environment for all people.
